According to a report by Kearney titled Cybersecurity in Africa – A Call to Action, the African cybersecurity market was valued at USD 2.5 billion in 2020 and is projected to increase to USD 3.7 billion by 2025, which encompasses the amount organisations invest to enhance their cybersecurity capabilities.
Due to its economic development, growing strategic relevance, and evolving digital landscape, the region has become a prime target for cyberattacks. According to African Business, approximately 90 percent of African businesses are operating without cybersecurity protocols in place, making them vulnerable to cyber threats, such as hacking, phishing, and malware attacks.
Challenges in Cyber Security
One of the key challenges in addressing cyber threats in Africa is the lack of robust cyber security infrastructure. Many African nations are still in the nascent stages of developing comprehensive frameworks. Additionally, Africa-based data security analysts point out that a dearth of qualified technicians coupled with a lack of investment in cybersecurity has been a direct contributor to the growth in the amount and scale of successful cyberattacks.
